OBD-II · Engine and powertrain (P)
P0088
Fuel rail/system pressure too high
What it means
Fuel rail pressure is higher than the engine computer's target.
Symptoms
- loss of power or limp mode
- rough running
- engine warning light
Likely causes, most likely first
| No. | Cause |
|---|---|
| 01 | sticking rail pressure regulator or fuel metering valve |
| 02 | faulty rail pressure sensor reading high |
| 03 | restricted fuel return line |
| 04 | wiring fault to the pressure regulator or metering valve |
| 05 | engine computer control fault |
What to check, step by step
- 01Compare requested and actual rail pressure in live data.
- 02Check engine-off rail pressure only after the OEM pressure-decay conditions are met. Residual pressure can remain after shutdown; verify sensor supply, ground and signal before condemning it, and never loosen a fuel line to check pressure.
- 03Check the return line for kinks or blockage.
- 04Test the pressure regulator and metering valve circuits.
- 05Replace the faulty regulator, valve or sensor.
