Lost communication with gateway module A
What it means
A module has stopped receiving messages from the gateway, the unit that passes data between the car's separate networks and the diagnostic socket.
Symptoms
- Many warning lights at once
- Scan tool cannot reach some or all modules
- Features across the car stop working
Likely causes, most likely first
| No. | Cause |
|---|---|
| 01 | weak 12V battery or recent battery replacement |
| 02 | blown gateway fuse |
| 03 | water ingress or corrosion at the gateway (often under the dashboard or in a footwell) |
| 04 | aftermarket device connected to the gateway or diagnostic socket |
| 05 | failed gateway module |
What to check, step by step
- 01Check 12V battery and fuses
- 02Unplug any aftermarket device on the diagnostic socket or CAN wiring
- 03Check whether the gateway answers a scan tool
- 04Inspect gateway location and connectors for water and corrosion
- 05Test power, ground and bus wiring at the gateway
