P0A0F
Hybrid: engine failed to start
What it means
The system commanded the combustion engine to start, but it did not start or run as expected. On a hybrid this can concern either a petrol or a diesel engine.
Symptoms
- Hybrid system or engine warning light
- Car may run on electric only and then stop
- Reduced power
Likely causes, most likely first
| No. | Cause |
|---|---|
| 01 | insufficient fuel or incorrect fuel-level indication |
| 02 | fuel delivery or injection fault |
| 03 | stale or contaminated fuel, especially after long periods without engine use |
| 04 | ignition coil or spark-plug fault on petrol engines |
| 05 | air-metering, crank/cam signal, compression or valve-timing fault |
What to check, step by step
- 01Confirm sufficient fuel of the correct type and read engine and hybrid codes, subcodes and freeze-frame data
- 02Follow the engine-specific no-start procedure; check fuel delivery, injection and crank/cam signals as indicated by the codes
- 03On petrol engines, check spark plugs and coils; on diesels, use the specified fuel-pressure, injection and cold-start checks
- 04Check compression and mechanical timing if the earlier tests are satisfactory
- 05Prevent automatic engine restart using the OEM procedure before hands-on work; avoid repeated unsuccessful starts that can deplete the traction battery
