OBD-II · Engine and powertrain (P)
P0441
EVAP system incorrect purge flow
What it means
The ECU sees more or less fuel vapour flow from the charcoal canister into the engine than expected when it opens the purge valve.
Symptoms
- engine warning light
- rough idle or hard starting just after refuelling (purge valve stuck open)
- fuel smell
Likely causes, most likely first
| No. | Cause |
|---|---|
| 01 | purge valve stuck open or closed |
| 02 | cracked, disconnected or blocked purge hose |
| 03 | saturated or blocked charcoal canister |
| 04 | wiring fault to the purge valve |
What to check, step by step
- 01Inspect the purge hoses from the canister to the intake for cracks and disconnection
- 02With the engine off, test the purge valve with a hand vacuum pump at the specified ports and vacuum; follow the OEM powered/unpowered leakage criteria rather than blowing through it.
- 03Activate the valve with a scan tool and listen for clicking; watch fuel trims change
- 04Check the canister for fuel contamination (from overfilling) and blockage
