P0337
Crankshaft position sensor A circuit low
What it means
The crankshaft sensor signal is below its valid range, usually an electrical fault.
Symptoms
- engine cranks but will not start
- engine cuts out, often when hot, and may restart after cooling
- rev counter drops to zero or jumps
- engine warning light
Likely causes, most likely first
| No. | Cause |
|---|---|
| 01 | signal wire short to ground |
| 02 | failed sensor |
| 03 | missing supply voltage (Hall-type sensors) |
| 04 | connector fault |
What to check, step by step
- 01Inspect the sensor connector and wiring, which is often routed near hot or moving parts
- 02Watch the engine speed in live data while cranking: no rpm signal points to the sensor or wiring
- 03Identify the sensor type first: resistance-test only an inductive sensor to specification. For Hall sensors, test supply, ground and waveform; do not use an ohmmeter.
- 04Remove the sensor and check its tip for metal debris or damage, and the trigger wheel for damaged teeth
- 05Replace the sensor if the wiring is good
