P0157
Oxygen sensor low voltage bank 2 sensor 2
What it means
The downstream lambda sensor circuit on bank 2 reports voltage below the permitted threshold. Distinguish an electrical fault from a genuine mixture problem using the OEM test for the fitted sensor type. Confirm bank 2's location in the engine's service information.
Symptoms
- engine warning light
- usually no change in how the car drives
- may fail the emissions part of the roadworthiness test
Likely causes, most likely first
| No. | Cause |
|---|---|
| 01 | exhaust leak near the sensor |
| 02 | faulty downstream sensor |
| 03 | lean running |
| 04 | signal short to ground |
| 05 | connector corrosion |
What to check, step by step
- 01Read fuel trims: if the ECU is adding a lot of fuel, find the real lean cause first
- 02Smoke-test the intake for vacuum leaks, including the crankcase breather/PCV valve
- 03Check for exhaust leaks before the sensor that draw in outside air
- 04Check the signal wire for a short to ground
- 05Substitute a known-good sensor if the mixture and wiring are fine
