OBD-II · Engine and powertrain (P)
P0010
A camshaft position actuator control circuit/open bank 1
What it means
The ECU detects an electrical fault in the solenoid that controls the A camshaft adjuster on bank 1 (usually the intake camshaft).
Symptoms
- engine warning light
- rough idle, especially when warm
- reduced power or poor pulling at low revs
- rattle at cold start if the timing chain or adjuster is worn
Likely causes, most likely first
| No. | Cause |
|---|---|
| 01 | failed camshaft adjuster solenoid (oil control valve) |
| 02 | oil wicking into the connector |
| 03 | wiring open or short |
| 04 | connector corrosion |
| 05 | ECU driver fault |
What to check, step by step
- 01Inspect the camshaft adjuster solenoid connector for oil, corrosion and broken pins
- 02Measure the solenoid resistance and compare with specification
- 03Check the wiring between the solenoid and the ECU for opens and shorts
- 04Activate the solenoid with a scan tool (output test) and listen or watch for response
- 05Replace the solenoid if it is open or shorted
